2025 North Dakota All-State Jazz Band Director: Christopher Dorsey

Christopher Dorsey holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Jackson State University (1983) and a Master of Science in Education – Instrumental Music from the University of Florida (1986).


With over 36 years of teaching experience in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, Christopher dedicated his career to inspiring students to compete at state and national levels while fostering opportunities for them to pursue music careers. His primary mission has always been to teach life skills through music.


An accomplished musician, Christopher has performed with jazz legends such as Nat Adderley, Al Grey, Slide Hampton, Lionel Hampton, and the Roland Burnes Quintet. As a featured trombonist, he toured extensively in Europe with the off-Broadway production of Ain’t Misbehavin’ and collaborated with renowned artists Dionne Warwick and Melton Mustafa.


Christopher is a proud member of the following professional organizations: Omega Psi Phi, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, FBA, FOA, MENC, and FMEA. Mr. Dorsey is a certified adjudicator for the Florida Bandmasters Association. He frequently evaluates Music Performance Assessments across the State of Florida.
